![]() ![]() ![]() Vivi is a black mage created in Dali at the behest of the kingdom of Alexandria after Queen Brahne learns of this technology from Kuja. I won't let you make any more instruments of murder! The black shadow under his hat gives off a dark bluish hue while his eyes are stark white instead of yellow. The straps crossing over his chest are replaced by a stylized design down the middle of his robe including a wing-like design on his chest. In Trance, Vivi's clothes are replaced by a full-length white robe, gloves, and an appropriately-sized hat that stands at a point. He wears a large tan pointy hat, a blue jacket, green and white stripy trousers, red and white gloves, and brown boots. Vivi has a completely black face and large yellow eyes. When in a party with Steiner, he can grant Steiner access to his learned spells as Swd Mag spells, amplifying Steiner's damage and adding an elemental effect if desired. Vivi's Trance changes his Blk Mag to Dbl Blk, allowing him to cast two spells at once. Focus improves his Magic stat for the duration of the fight, and can be stacked, allowing him to cast more powerful spells. Blk Mag grants him access to a wide variety of offensive spells, most dealing elemental damage or negative status effects. Vivi's special abilities are Focus and Blk Mag. Vivi befriends Zidane, who acts like an older brother to him, and resolves to use his magic to protect his new friends. Over time, he gains bravery and confidence, as well as a sense of right and wrong. He is fearful of his powers, origins, and his own lifespan. Vivi appears at first to be gullible, clumsy, and shy, often stumbling over his speech lacking self-confidence. He is a black mage, differentiated from humans by having a black aura surrounding his visible outer skin, glowing yellow eyes, and the ability to cast magic. As Quan's ghost fades, Zidane is left wondering who they are all talking to.Vivi Ornitier, occasionally stylized as VIVI, or with the surname Orunitia, is a playable character in Final Fantasy IX. Quale praises Vivi for his open-mindedness, expressing pride in what Vivi had accomplished on his own. He commends Quina, implying Quina has already surpassed Quale in the ways of the gourmand. Quale arrives at the abode and Quan reprimands him for his myopia. Zidane observes the clock stopped "about a week before we kidnapped Garnet".ĭuring Quina and Vivi's visit to the dwelling, Quan's ghost appears to the two. Later, Vivi and Quina can visit the dwelling to learn more about Vivi's history and examine the broken clock out on the ledge from where Quan used to fish. When Vivi asks Quale about his relation to Quan, Quale lets loose that he considered Quan a "bigot", then does a horrible job of covering up his blunder, pretending he has never heard of Quan. When the party visits Quale in Qu's Marsh, Vivi remarks the Qu leader resembles his "grandfather". Having gained a curiosity about the outside world due to his grandpa's stories, Vivi sets out to Alexandria where he joins Zidane's party, and Quan's dwelling is left abandoned. When Quan passed away January 1st 1800, Vivi was left alone. Vivi became so endeared to the Qu he began to call Quan "grandpa". It is possible that Quan's caring for Vivi allowed the latter to become sentient and emphatic, unlike the other black mages who initially act like automatons. Quan had Vivi move in, and though Quan planned to eat him once Vivi would grow bigger, he named him and taught him many things about the world. Quan made his abode in a cave with a hot spring outside Treno where he lived alone until one day, while out fishing on the ledge of his dwelling, instead of fish, Quan caught a black mage: Vivi. Quan and Quale did not part ways amicably, Quale later denying even knowing Quan. Quan had an apprentice called Quale whom he was supposed to tutor in the art of food, but became exasperated with his pupil's lack of imagination, viewing it as an essential quality for a master gourmand. This could suggest Quan had either decided not to eat Vivi by the time of his death, or that he vacillated as to whether he would or not. Otherwise, Quan may not have bothered to teach Vivi of the ways of the world and on his last moments encourage Vivi to go out and live out his life. In spite of his intent to eat Vivi, it is not beyond likelihood Quan harbored a parental affection for the black mage. He praises Quina for having the imagination needed to become a champion gourmand. Quan was a master gourmand and passionate about his craft, placing imagination at the core of his love of food. Unlike the other Qu, he has a black mustache. Quan wears a rose-colored patterned shirt with dragon symbols with long sleeves, lavender trousers and shoes fashioned with pink ribbons. This may be on purpose, as he taught Vivi many things about the world. Quan's clothing resembles an ancient Chinese scholar. ![]()
